About the uniMIND Symposium

The uniMIND Symposium is a series of early career conferences in the uniMIND network. The Symposium creates a stimulating envinronment in which completed, ongoing as well as planned research is presented by Early Career Researchers and senior scientists alike. Alongside academic presentations, it includes interactives formats such as a Problem-Based Learning group phase, a discussion panel, and more.

The conference offers valuable networking opportunities for academics and introduces creative methods and inspiration for their professional development.

2025: Metamorphosis in psychedelic science

The uniMIND Symposium 2025 in Prague explores the risks, realities, and potentials of psychedelic substances and altered states of consciousness across a range of applications, including medicine, psychotherapy, neuroscience, and cultural studies.

The “Metamorphosis” theme pays homage to the transformative nature of psychedelics and the growing body of evidence supporting their therapeutic potential and increasing public acceptance. At the same time, it reflects the Kafkaesque challenges they face: entangled in regulatory labyrinths, public skepticism, and cultural stigma. This duality mirrors a broader metamorphosis in how these substances are understood within scientific and medical communities and their evolving role in modern society.

The uniMIND Symposium invites participants from various backgrounds to engage in critical discussions on the role of psychedelics and altered states of consciousness in research, healthcare, and society.

Collaboration with NUDZ

The uniMIND Symposium 2025 is being organized in collaboration with the Psychedelic Research Center at the National Institute of Mental Health (NUDZ) in Czechia. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing psychedelic science and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.

uniMIND Prague

Another core organizer is uniMIND Prague, spearheaded by Allen Fishman, William Lytle, and Andy Jaklova. As the “locals” in Prague, the groups plays a key role in coordinating venue access, local speakers, and partners; and, of course, they are involved in building the conference program.

Sponsored by PSYRES

Thanks to the generous support from PSYRES, the Czech Psychedelic Research Foundation, we are able to keep ticket costs low and include full catering for all conference attendees. In this way, our conference will be much more accessible and the lunch break will be an excellent networking opportunity.

Exclusive screening: Doctor on a Trip

Among the many exciting activities at the uniMIND Symposium 2025 will be an exclusive premiere screening of the documentary film Doctor on a Trip, which will be in English. This is just one month after its original release in Czech-language.

Meet the Organizers

This event is organized by a diverse and dedicated group of people from the uniMIND network — a community of early career researchers, students, and professionals passionate about the science of consciousness and psychedelics. Driven by curiosity and collaboration, the team works behind the scenes to create a meaningful space for exchange, reflection, and growth. Their shared vision makes the uniMIND Symposium a uniquely engaging and inclusive event.

Dr. Marvin Däumichen co-founded the MIND Foundation and initiated the uniMIND program. Since its inception in 2018, it has grown to be the largest international academic journal club network focused on psychedelic research topics, spanning four continents.

Apart from uniMIND, he builds networks and cooperations and is in charge of science communications and educational programs at the Berlin-based non-profit MIND Foundation. Marvin holds a Ph.D. in social sciences and prevention research with a focus on psychoactive substances and digital media.

Caterina is a Psychology undergraduate with interest in the benefit of psychedelic therapy, especially in end-of-life phase.

She's completing an internship in the MIND Foundation, during which she was deeply involved in organizing the symposium.

Allen is the founder and lead coordinator of the uniMIND Prague group, which he started in 2023, and is the main co-organizer of the uniMIND Symposium.

He is a medical doctor, graduated from the First Medical Faculty (1.LF) of Charles University in Prague, currently is planning to pursue his Ph.D. in Psychedelic Neuroscience at the Czech National Institute of Mental Health (NUDZ), and aims to specialize in Psychiatry in the Czech Republic.

Will has been involved in event coordination at uniMIND Prague since the very beginning, and is responsible for much of the organization and communication behind the uniMIND Symposium.

He's a medical graduate from the First Medical Faculty (1.LF), Charles University in Prague, and currently works as a psychiatry resident at the VFN General University Hospital.

Andy has been involved with uniMIND Prague since 2024, is responsible for the communication with external speakers and organizations, and she has been instrumental in obtaining funding for the uniMIND Symposium and recruiting partner organizations.

She is a medical doctor who graduated from the Second Faculty of Medicine (2.LF), Charles University in Prague, and now works as a psychiatrist at the VFN General University Hospital Addiction Center.

Isis Koutrouli, MSc, is a 2nd year PhD student in Neurosciences at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, conducting research at the Psychedelic Research Center (National Institute of Mental Health).

Her research focuses on investigating the therapeutic mechanisms of psychedelic substances in drug addiction. Isis is an active member of the uniMIND journal club in Prague, where she contributes to discussions bridging neuroscience research and emerging topics in psychedelic science.

Maria Sibylla Merian

The uniMIND Symposium 2025 graphics are inspired by and based on illustrations by Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717), who was a pioneering German-born naturalist and scientific illustrator that revolutionized the field of entomology. Her groundbreaking work on insect metamorphosis, particularly her detailed and scientifically accurate illustrations of moths, butterflies, and their life cycles, set new standards for natural history illustration.

Merian's meticulous observations and artistic talent allowed her to make significant contributions to both art and science during a time when women were largely excluded from these fields. Her most famous work, Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium (1705), transformed the way natural history was studied and presented. It provided unprecedented insights into tropical biodiversity, depicting insects in their ecological contexts alongside host plants and habitats. This innovative approach not only advanced scientific understanding but also bridged art and science, influencing both fields for generations.
